Folks, I’ll hold off on nature musings, philosophical space travel, the metaphors of oceans and alternate dimensions in favor of one crystal clear point this morning:
The Solar Eclipse is tomorrow.
If you’re in the path of the shadow….LUCKY!
If, like me, you’re in the partial path, run out to the store, and get yourself some eclipse glasses.
Better yet, check around to see if there’s a community event. There’s a ton planned, with free glasses, and solar telescopes.
Lynchburg Plans
If you need a local to Lynchburg event, I’ll be over at the Central Virginia Community College helping run some solar scopes…
Unless(!)
It’s cloudy. Then I’ll be chasing blue skies. You won’t find me in town then.
Things to Notice
Dig the shadows. The dappled light under trees will turn into a thousand tiny crescent suns. Ditto if you hold up a colander.
Dig the light. As it fades, the colors stay the same, only dimmer. Unlike a sunset, while the color shifts and the purple shadows lengthen, the landscape takes on a eerie feel that you’re in a cheap night shot on Gunsmoke, before they figured out convincing nocturnal lighting.
Do the birds react? The bugs? The temperature?
It’s a grand show, taking place approximately from 2-4 pm, depending on where you are in the band.
Looking forward to comparing notes soon!
And if it’s cloudy? You’ll know the reason why in tomorrow’s newsletter. I’m sorry in advance…
Happy shadow chasing!
