How much is a cinderblock? $3.97
Is there an engineering fee to add a stairwell to a house plan? (Probably)
If there’s a delay in the closing of a construction loan, to extend it is 3/8ths of a point…or is it half…or is it 7/8ths?
Is “finding your passion” our generation’s search for a false idol, an attempt to fill an unfillable void with electric guitar or knitting or growing the finest marigolds? (Perhaps.)
What’s that burning smell?
(For a reenactment of the scene at my desk today, please have a look.)
The questions are irrelevant, or teetering on a fine line between genuine help and sanctimonious drivel. I’ll keep cooking on all three until there’s something useful to share. There’s something there, but it’s not ready yet.
(You’re welcome for the cat video, by the way.)
The marigolds sure are looking fine, basking in the golden melancholy of the evening sun. Earlier, a young five-lined skink, his tail still neon blue, rummaged sneakily among the pine needles in the side garden and wrangled a spider or grasshopper or something. Nom nom nom.
It reminded me of a time when I was younger, too, fetching an afternoon snack on the way home from a DJ gig. The grocery store in Fort Washington had the best jalapeno cheddar bagels (well, they were filling, at least).
I picked up a few, and rolled back into the rush hour traffic, southbound down a sweeping curve at sixty miles an hour. The cheese fit the rat race. But the bread was chewy. With a yank and twist of my head, I ripped off a piece with such vigor that a morsel of hot-pepper-infused cheese flew up, and landed in my eye.
Yewooooch!
The watering…the tears…the loss of function of my left eye, as all of us commuters sped down Indian Head Highway into an unforgiving sun.
I had to pull over until the pain subsided.
Hopefully the skink doesn’t make my mistake, and put any venomous bugs in his eye.
(That’s more bridge troll-level stuff.)

To pick up the class quotient, here’s some Bach for your evening, played by Sir Andras Schiff. Bellissimo!
