Greetings from Charlottesville Panera! What a day…sixty degrees warmer than last week, and everyone is basking in the sun like large, philosophical turtles.
A quick stop between gigs, off to spin for some OGs next, and a bowl of tomato soup with a white T shirt.
Careful is the word of the hour.
Saw this banger from C.S. Lewis recently:
“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less.”
―CS Lewis
I think of myself too much. Maybe it's something I could chalk up to writing and blogging and this false idea of needing to opine.
But I know that’s not true. Gotta keep working.
As the noise and life of college kids at lunchtime and old friends meeting and business people snagging one quiet moment at a table alone and the eighty degree sun smiles in the window, that ice of me melts away and I can see something else again.
It’s good to be in the world, a natural habitat, a way things should be.
That was a strange thing during the lockdown at the nursing home. Things weren’t as they should be, in unexpected ways, like a swimming pool isn’t a pond, life displaced with Chlorine.
And speaking of that time, it was an honor to share a few of those stories with writer colleagues last week. I’ve got to run off to spin Elvis records, but here’s a quick video. I gave a talk about writing Cities on a Hill and telling stories that must be told. It doesn’t fit with the Lewis quote at all….But I hope you enjoy it. :)
And have an Elvis tune for a warm day, too. Crank it, it’s Friday.
